About ArcTech

Built in the North, by people who work here

For over 20 years, we’ve been the IT department for Canadian small businesses — quietly, locally, and without the corporate posturing.

Our story

From a Hay River computer shop to managed cybersecurity

ArcTech Computers started in Hay River, NT — fixing computers, selling Dell hardware, and setting up the wireless networks that small businesses up here needed to actually do business. That was over twenty years ago.

A lot changed in those two decades. Servers moved to the cloud. Email moved to Microsoft 365. “Antivirus” stopped being enough. Ransomware became the thing that quietly bankrupts companies. The conversation shifted from “can you fix this PC?” to “can you keep us running and out of the news?”

We grew up with our clients — from desktop support, to networking, to managed services, to cybersecurity. Same people, same town, more capability.

Today we’re a full managed IT and cybersecurity provider serving the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, and Alberta. We still answer to Hay River. We still respond to tickets ourselves. We still tell clients the truth when something costs more than it should — or when they don’t need a product their previous vendor sold them.

The tools are different. The principles aren’t.

Who we are

ArcTech Computers ULC is a 50% Métis-owned business. Dr. Lisa Locke — a registered Métis citizen — is a 50% owner of the company alongside James Locke. For organizations with Indigenous procurement initiatives, our ownership structure is part of what we bring to the table. For everyone else, it’s part of who we are: a Canadian business with Northern roots, operated by people who care about both.

What we believe

Four principles you’ll feel in how we work

Not corporate values posters. Just the patterns that have kept us in business — and kept clients with us — for two decades.

We tell you what we can do — and what we can’t

If a vendor’s tool can do something we can’t, we’ll say so. If a project is outside our scope, we’ll tell you and point you somewhere good. No oversell, no padding, no “managed everything” promises we can’t deliver.

Flat fees, no surprise bills

Managed IT, backup, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 licensing — bundled into a single monthly fee per covered endpoint. You shouldn’t be afraid to open a ticket because it might cost you. Predictable budgets, predictable service.

Local roots, national reach

Hay River is home. We’ve been here longer than most of the businesses we serve. But our work spans the NWT, BC, and Alberta — and we know how to support a site we’ll never set foot in, because we’ve been doing it since before “remote work” was a buzzword.

Modern tooling, human judgment

We run our practice on real MSP infrastructure — RMM, SOC, EDR, documentation, ticketing. But we don’t hide behind it. When something breaks, a person looks at it, understands it, and tells you what’s actually going on.

Partners & certifications

The platforms we run, the credentials we hold

We’re not a single-vendor shop, but we go deep on the platforms we deploy. Direct partner relationships mean we can pick up the phone when a client needs us to.
